Secret Wedding Bells

Bessette Kennedy, who had already been seen on the arms of the rich and famous, including current Baywatch star Michael Bergin and Tampa Bay Lightning Assistant Coach John Cullen, made the leap to society’s super-elite when she caught the eye, and the heart, of America’s prince, John F. Kennedy Jr.

Gossip reports say she either met Kennedy while helping him shop for suits at Calvin Klein, or was contacted by him after he saw her jogging in a New York park. The tabloids had Kennedy living with actress Daryl Hannah at the time, but he broke up with the actress shortly after the death of his mother in May 1994.
It seemed as if the girl voted “The Ultimate Beautiful Person” by her high school classmates had met her perfect match in the man voted “The Sexiest Man Alive” by People magazine.

But, rumors of angry arguments, false pregnancy and family disapproval surrounded the couple, even after their top-secret marriage on Sept. 21, 1996, in Cumberland Island, Ga.

The couple made their home in Manhattan’s Tribeca neighborhood, but this weekend, a Connecticut television station broke the news that they had been building a dream home in New Canaan, a town where Bessette Kennedy lived as a girl.
She wanted to return home with her husband by her side.
